In Anticipation of the Governor's Drive to Rapidly Open Eligibility Criteria

SARASOTA - The Department of Health in Sarasota County (DOH) expanded vaccination registration eligibility on Monday, March 15, for those 18 and older in anticipation of the governor’s drive to rapidly open eligibility criteria.

Today, Governor DeSantis announced Executive Order 21-67, which allows those 50 and older, and frontline healthcare workers, school staff, LEO to register to receive the COVID-19 vaccination beginning Monday March 22.

“Since expanding the registration system on Monday, March 15, DOH has experienced a slower registration sign-up rate, than when registrations first became available for those in priority group 1A in January,” said Florida Department of Health in Sarasota Health Officer Chuck Henry. “I encourage everyone in Sarasota County that wants to receive a vaccine, to register in our COVID-19 Vaccination registration system,” he continued.

Henry also confirmed DOH continues to see an increase in appointment notice declines or no responses and are moving through registration groups more quickly. With a steady supply of vaccine and new priority groups opening, advance COVID-19 vaccine registration is the key to getting a vaccine quickly when it’s your turn, Henry said.

To date, nearly 22,150 new individuals 18 and older have registered to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Sarasota County. As of a 11 a.m., Friday, there are over 9,240 eligible registrants 60 and over, and frontline healthcare workers, school staff, LEO, in queue for a first-dose appointment.

Individuals 60 and older, who registered Monday, March 15, through Friday, March 19 have been assigned account numbers already and are in queue to begin receiving appointment notices early next week. The scheduling system has officially contacted all complete-eligible accounts from the Jan. 20, 1A priority group registration system for for-dose notices. The system will transition to scheduling appointments in the 1B priority group early next week.

In accordance with EO 21-67, beginning, Monday, March 22, DOH will also begin assigning account numbers to those individuals who are 50 and older, and registered already in the system, and will continue to assign account numbers to new registrants 50 and older, and frontline healthcare workers, school staff, LEO.

As state guidelines continue to expand, numbers will be assigned to accounts that meet eligibility guidelines by in order of registration. It may take up to a few days for account numbers to populate into newly registered-eligible accounts. DOH will continue to schedule appointments by numerical order, based on account creation timestamps and sequential priority groups.

Individuals with questions or needing assistance with account registration may call the Vaccine Registration call center at 941-861-VAXS (8297), 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, visit the Information and Registration Station inside Sarasota Square Mall, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. during clinic operations, or through social media direct message @SRQCountyGov.
