Welcome to the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota (DOH-Sarasota). We collaborate with federal, state, county and city organizations and governments, hospitals, non-profit agencies, charitable foundations, resident-supported Community Health Action Teams (CHATs) and others to help ensure everyone in our community has the same chance to be healthy.
The agency was established as the Sarasota County Health Department in 1941. Currently, about 200 dedicated full-time employees serve approximately 400,000 residents from seven site across the county.
Our core public health functions include environmental health, vital records (birth and death certificates), epidemiology, communicable disease control, emergency preparedness and response, health education, nutrition services, and immunizations.
