Health In Motion Mobile Medical Unit Travels Around the County

Mobile Health Services offered at 10 locations and three special events during February 

SARASOTA COUNTY - The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County's (DOH-Sarasota) Health In Motion Mobile Medical Unit staff will provide free and low-cost health services at 10 sites around the county during February. The mobile medical unit will also be present at the 4th Annual Fun and Fitness Expo on Wednesday, Feb. 11 from 1-5 p.m. at New College of Florida, 5800 Bay Shore Road in Sarasota, and at the Holiday Park, and Harbor Isles Health Fair events in North Port onFriday, Feb. 6 and Friday, Feb. 13, respectively.  


Services include:

*    Diabetes education and screening 
*    Blood pressure tests 
*    Pregnancy testing 
*    No cost HIV & Sexually Transmitted
     Disease (STD) testing 
*    Body mass index (BMI) measurement 
*    Health education 
*    Tobacco cessation referrals to any of the
      three no-cost options offered by Tobacco
      Free Florida's '3 Ways to Quit' 
*    Adult immunizations including flu shots

No appointment is needed. A registered nurse is  available at all sites. Testing is fast and easy. There is a fee associated with some services. HIV rapid testing results are available in 20 minutes. STD testing results are sent to you using a special coded text message.
  
A number of adult immunizations including flu shots, the pneumonia vaccine, the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (TDaP) vaccine, and Hepatitis A & B vaccines are offered.  Many of these vaccines are available at no-co st to adults who qualify. Credit/debit card payment via VISA, MASTERCARD, & DISCOVER is accepted.
                                         
The staff also assists individuals who lack medical insurance and do not have a health care provider to find a medical home for ongoing health care.

While these services are most often provided in a 40-foot-long bus, there are times when services are provided inside the facilities visited.
