National Public Health Week, April 4-April 10

SARASOTA COUNTY - Today, Friday, April 8, Children’s World Uniform Supply, a worksite of 12 employees, received a “Platinum” level Healthy Sarasota County Worksite designation certificate. Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County (DOH-Sarasota) Health Officer Chuck Henry and Cara Williams, the program’s coordinator co-presented Tim Holliday of Children’s World Uniform Supply with the certificate. Tim was flanked by several store employees who proudly displayed their 5210 Healthy Lifestyle bracelet and pedometers provided to them by DOH-Sarasota.

“We typically think of larger organizations supporting employee wellness; however, DOH-Sarasota through the Healthy Sarasota County Worksite Initiative, reaches out to businesses of all sizes including retail organizations,” says Ms. Williams. Children’s World Uniform Supply is one of nine worksites in Sarasota County to achieve milestones in seven target areas —healthy eating, physical activity, stress reduction, tobacco cessation, illness prevention, breastfeeding support and drug-free workplace. The designation levels, Platinum, Gold, Silver, or Bronze recognize new or existing efforts to improve employee health based on total points earned.

The presentation, coincided with National Public Health Week, April 4-April 10; promoting a nation of safe, healthy communities as one of the campaign themes. Health officials say worksite wellness is an important aspect of promoting a safe, healthy community. People spend more time at work than anywhere else and decisions and habits reinforced in a healthy worksite can transcend into other aspects of life.

Through the Healthy Sarasota County Worksite Initiative, businesses are provided no-cost corporate wellness consultations and resources. After completing the designation process, businesses receive a certificate for display, access to the Healthy Sarasota County Worksites e-logo, publicity and recognition on the website, www.healthysarasota.com.
