June 27, 2016

SARASOTA, FL — The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County’s (DOH-Sarasota) Health In Motion staff will provide free and low-cost public health services during July.

The Health In Motion staff provides health screenings, some adult vaccines, tobacco cessation support and health education for general health and wellness. Individuals who need follow-up medical care are referred to a primary health care provider.

Health In Motion services include:

• Diabetes education and screening
• Blood pressure check
• HIV & Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) testing
• Hepatitis C virus rapid screening
• Body mass index (BMI) measurement
• Referrals to Tobacco Free Florida’s "3 Ways to Quit" no-cost resources
• Health education
• Limited adult immunizations including flu shots

No appointment is needed. Testing is fast and easy. HIV rapid testing results are available in 20 minutes. STD testing results are sent to the individual using a special coded text message. Those who lack medical insurance and do not have a health care provider are linked to a medical home for ongoing health care. There is a fee for some services; however, several tests and vaccines are available at no-cost to adults who qualify.

Please note these services will be provided inside the buildings of the facilities visited.  The following is a schedule of dates and locations.
