Trained specialists work to reduce the risk of food and waterborne disease throughout the State of Florida. Activities include ongoing monitoring, investigation of outbreaks, reporting of disease and public education.
The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County oversees specific types of food service operations including fraternal organizations, schools, detention facilities, bars, assisted living facilities, and day care centers. The Florida Department of Health does not have regulatory authority over restaurants. Restaurants are inspected by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation Division of Hotels and Restaurants (FDBPR-H&R).
