Chuck Henry, RS, MPA; Director Chuck Henry, MPA; Health Officer

Welcome to the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota (DOH-Sarasota). We collaborate with federal, state, county and city organizations and governments, hospitals, non-profit agencies, charitable foundations, resident-supported Community Health Action Teams (CHATs) and others to help ensure everyone in our community has the same chance to be healthy.

The agency was established as the Sarasota County Health Department in 1941. Currently, about 400 dedicated full-time employees serve approximately 400,000 residents from seven site across the county. Our core public health functions include environmental health, vital records (birth and death certificates), epidemiology, communicable disease control, emergency preparedness and response, health education, nutrition services, immunizations, and clinical services, including dentistry.

As a nationally-accredited Patient Centered Medical Home, we share responsibility with our private sector partner, the Community Health Centers of Sarasota County, in providing quality, affordable primary health care to more than 26,000 low and moderate income clients. DOH-Sarasota partners with Community Health Centers of Sarasota County, Inc., a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), to provide primary health care services at our locations. No one is refused health care. However, everyone must pay their fair share based on income and family size. CHCSC provides services regardless of geographic residence; however, proof of Sarasota County residency is required for certain facilities that handle referrals from primary care providers.
