Which immunizations do you need?
Take the CDC's quiz to find out!
The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) maintains a list of routine vaccinations recommended for adults.
The following vaccines are available at DOH-Sarasota. Click on a vaccine for more information from the CDC.
- Hepatitis A
- Hepatitis B
- Human Papillomavirus (HPV) (Gardasil)
- Influenza (Flu)
- Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR)
- Meningococcal (especially for college students and certain travelers)
- Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (Tdap)
Even if you were vaccinated as a child for these illnesses, immunity tends to wane over time. Booster shots are often necessary to maintain adequate protection from these diseases, which in rare instances can cause deafness and even death. - Pneumonia
Pneumonia is a one-time dose for all 65 and over; an additional dose before age 65 may also be recommended for certain people with high risk factors - Rabies
The rabies vaccine is primarily recommended for anyone, regardless of age, who has been bitten by a potentially rabid animal or whose job puts them at higher risk for exposure to rabies (including veterinarians, animal handlers, and certain laboratory workers). - Shingles (Herpes Zoster) (for adults 50 and older)
- Varicella (Chickenpox)
DOH-Sarasota also provides these screenings:
- Tuberculosis (TB) - tuberculin skin testing (TST)
- Titers
- Hepatitis B
- Measles
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella (Chickenpox)
Vaccine Cost Information
Vaccines are provided at no-cost for children under age 19, even those without insurance, through the federally-funded Vaccines For Children (VFC) program. If your insurance plan covers vaccines, please bring your insurance card with you. There is no co-pay for children’s vaccines.
Adults 19 years of age and older who do not have insurance that covers vaccines can get several no-cost or low-cost vaccines. These include HPV (a cancer prevention vaccine), and vaccines that protect against Tetanus, Pertussis (whooping cough), Pneumonia, Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B, and Meningitis. There may be an administration fee.
We accept Medicare and most insurance plans if they cover vaccines.
Our travelers’ health service staff provides:
- comprehensive consultation
- all required and recommended vaccines
- prescriptions for anti-malaria medications
